Here we hear Trane in the post-bop style strutting his stuff. I gotta say that he sounds the same on alto as he does on tenor, albeit just a different tonal range because of the high sound of the alto. He's playing very melodically so this has to be the late 50's, early 60's, a great time period for Trane and for Jazz. It sounds from the playing here that Trane is playing his own kind of stylized licks and patterns, stuff that he would go on to play even later in his career. I can recognize it because once you've heard Trane long enough you recognize alot of his harmonic material. He's one of the best and I would say that his alto playing here is even as good as Charlie Parker's. Enjoy the short audio. I don't think anyone else has audio of Trane playing alto saxophone. I was surprised I found this. But it sure sounds exactly like him. The rhythm, breathing, and spacing is especially Trane-esque. Talk about great stuff!
