Overwatch Getting Server Browser

Jeff Kaplan, Director of Overwatch put out a new video recently that outlined the new server browser that Overwatch is getting. It's currently being tested out on the ptr and I can't wait to try it out. For most fps veterans on the pc a server browser is something that should always be there. The fact that Overwatch launched and didn't have one until now is a bit baffling. Even for me despite the fact that I've only been playing first person shooters seriously (competitively) for almost a year.

Some things you can do on the server browser:
  • Turn on/off individual hero abilities
  • More customization on hero ability cooldown times
  • Change payload speed
  • Change capture speed on control points
  • Allow/disallow individual heroes
  • Enable/disable flag pick-up time
  • Change CTF so a team’s flag has to be back at their base in order to cap the enemy flag
  • Increase Pharah’s missile speed
Sounds pretty sick, right? Also, I should mention that Capture the Flag will become a permanent custom game mode. This is a huge step into the right direction for Overwatch. The game has become very stale and I think I speak for us all when I say that Sombra was a bit disappointing. I hope they can buff her up some and make her more viable in ranked play as well as release some new heroes and maps. I know they give us a lot of stuff for free but they should create more stuff at a faster speed. Perhaps the same speed they put into creating new Heroes of the Storm characters? They release new Heroes content super fast. Feels like its every eight weeks.

Anyways, this server browser will keep Overwatch alive probably forever. It'll become like Team Fortress where the server browser has kept it alive since 2007, astounding! It's going to be fun playing custom matches with friends and randoms alike. I would really love to have all Mercy pistol battles.

'Bout time Blizzard
